Week 5: Rams to Win Thursday Nighter

Thursday night in St. Louis, a 2-2 team that is getting better under head coach Jeff Fisher is playing a 4-0 team that nobody — absolutely nobody — believes is a really a 4-0 football team.

It’s the 2-2 St. Louis Rams playing host to the 4-0 Arizona Cardinals in a game that might have been considered a throwaway when the schedule was made, but has now become a very interesting matchup.

And yet, it’s still not the biggest news story in the NFL.

Fat, or better yet, “Does this shirt make me look fat?” is the NFL’s story of the week.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the league’s new Nike “body-contoured fit” jerseys have NFL linemen complaining that “This jersey makes me look fat!”

Baltimore’s Terrence Cody

“I hate them.  They are built for thin guys,” 300-pound San Francisco 49ers guard Alex Boone told the Journal. “It makes me look like I have big old love handles.”

Boone complained that the new jerseys make his stomach hang out at the bottom and it makes him self-conscious.

“It makes me look fat,” he said.  “And I’m not fat.”

According to the WSJ, after Boone’s wife saw her husband in the new uniform, she told him, “You look like you ate a small baby.” Now that’s nasty.

Alex Boone of the Niners: “I’m not fat!”

“I don’t really care for the new jerseys,” said 6-foot-4, 349-pound Ravens defensive lineman Terrence Cody. “I feel like they should put different material in for the big guys.”

The Doc and The Coach could not wear the new uniforms. Just sayin’. However, they do have large brains, as well, and this past week, they actually used them.

The Doc went 10-5 straight up last week (31-32) and almost got back to .500. He was also a stronger 7-8 against the spread (18-45). The Coach, meanwhile, started to sizzle. He went 12-3 straight up (36-27) and 8-7 (26-37) against the spread and is ready to rip it up this week.

But first, let’s start with a fat one. Thursday night’s matchup between the Cardinals and the Rams.

Larry Fitzgerald.

Arizona Cardinals (4-0) at St. Louis Rams (2-2)
Line: Cardinals by 1

I can’t remember a time where you could use “undefeated” and “Arizona” in the same sentence. The Cards barely beat the Dolphins last week, giving up almost 500 yards on defense! The Rams are coming off a nice win over the Seahawks and Jeff Fisher seems to be getting his team on track. Despite Arizona having a 10-1 record vs. St. Louis in their last 11 meetings, I smell an upset. The Coach says: “Arizona is not that good and St. Louis is no longer that bad.”
